Rochester Lake House

Residence
Our clients approached us seeking a fresh take on the exterior of their charming lake house in Rochester, NY. They wanted the design to be distinct, intentional, and not just a replica of the other homes dotting the shoreline. Our mission was clear: to create a transformation that gave the home a bold character, with colors and features that would make it stand out from the lake while maintaining a connection to its natural surroundings.
For Phase One, we focused on refreshing the exterior, selecting the perfect color palette for the walls, windows, and doors, and recommending modern lighting fixtures. After discussions and inspiration sharing, we landed on a Cream and Black scheme to give the home a modern yet timeless look. We used Snowbound by Sherwin-Williams for the exterior, a soft off-white with subtle gray undertones, paired with Black Magic to add sharp contrast to the windows and doors. To tie it all together, matte black light fixtures were chosen to not only provide stylish accents but to ensure the home could be beautifully illuminated and visible from the lake, day or night. As you can see, the before and after is pretty dramatic.
Phase Two focused on transforming the deck into a versatile, year-round outdoor entertaining space, divided into three functional zones: lounge, dining, and cooking. Our design incorporated natural wood tones and black and white accents to complement the home’s updated exterior, while ensuring an uninterrupted flow throughout the deck and preserving those stunning lake views. In the lounge area, we selected modern outdoor furniture with clean lines and a minimalist aesthetic. The sofa and loungers feature a natural wood base, paired with crisp white cushions that create a striking contrast against the black fixtures. These pieces were carefully chosen for both their durability and comfort, making the space perfect for both everyday use and hosting guests. To provide flexibility, we incorporated adjustable umbrellas that offer ample shade during sunny days, while sleek, compact side tables give guests a convenient place for drinks or snacks. The dining zone features a large table ideal for hosting gatherings, along with a smaller setup for more intimate meals. In the cooking zone, space was optimized to allow easy flow between activities without obstructing the view. With this seamless integration of form and function, the deck is not just a retreat for relaxation, but a year-round hub for socializing, dining, and enjoying the serene lakeside atmosphere. The combination of high-quality furniture and thoughtful design ensures this space will serve the homeowners well for years to come.
